It's another ribbon cutting at High Falls.

"We're really pleased, because it takes another spot in High Falls off the market in a long-term lease," said Carlos Carballada, who heads up business development for the city of Rochester.

Telecom software company Callfinity opened in the former Rochester button factory building on Friday.

"We needed a space that was opened, high ceilings, lots of lights and it's really hard to find that in the suburbs," said Jeff Valentine of Callfinity.

Companies like Callfinity are giving new life to this neighborhood. When it failed as an entertainment district, the city tried a different approach: mixed use development.

"it has really come together and we're really pleased, particularily when you realize this was the heart of the city many many years ago," said Carballada.

Callfinity brings with it 39 jobs and expects to grow to 150 in about five years. In the fall another company, Stanpec, will move in to the old trolley barn, bringing another 150 jobs.

"You begin to add the numbers up and you begin to see the significance of what's happening," said Carballada.

The companies aren't alone. New residential spots are popping up as well as shops.

"If it's not mixed use, I don't think it works. You need people living here, you need people working here, you need entertainment as well. I think we need enough blend to keep people interested."

Callfinity has 39 employees. They expect to have 50 by years end.  The other company, Stantec, is expected to move in to their building in September.
