WROC-TV News 8 is honored to receive a 2011 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast, given by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). The award was given for News 8 at 5 coverage of the 2010 explosion near the Rochester International Airport.
“This prestigious recognition by an organization comprised of broadcast journalists and bearing the name of Edward R. Murrow is an honor that is both treasured and humbling.” said Louis A. Gattozzi, Vice President and General Manager of WROC. “This recognition is a shining example of great team work by the entire News 8 staff and one more reason why we are the team you can trust.”
The newscast features the longest running team of broadcasters in Rochester television, including anchors Kevin Doran and Maureen McGuire, Chief Meteorologist Scott Hetsko and Sports Director John Kucko.
“We are here to serve the community,” added News Director Jerry Walsh. “Our goal with each broadcast is to provide a relevant, accurate and compelling newscast for our viewers. This award represents the hard work and dedication the team puts into every single newscast on News 8 and FOX Rochester."
