The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra is made up of the best young musicians around. The standout on the oboe is LeRoy High School senior Siobhan Ball. Her teachers say she plays with an expressiveness that's far beyond her years. "She's always there both physically and mentally," says David Harman, Music Director of the RPYO. "Her eyes are always on the conductor, and conductors love that kind of thing! She's a really remarkably gifted young lady and I see a great future for her. " "I feel really good when I'm playing," Siobhan says. "I focus more on making music than playing notes." Siobhan began playing oboe seven years ago. She's studied with top-notch musicians, attended music camps at Potsdam and Eastman, and is devoted to her work with the RPYO. She says, "We get mentors that come from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and once a month they'll come here and give us lessons on our music, and it's really great."Performing may well be Siobhan's greatest gift. She's an exceptional artist who wants nothing more than to be a great oboe player and teacher.
