The Salute to Women of African Descent brings together women of color to give honor, praise abd respect to each other. As a result of an essay contest focused on "Our Most Admired Women of African Descent," we honor adult women from the local community who show us daily, in word and in deed, what a strong, achieving individual means to our community at large and especially to young women.
Awards are presented to these unsung heroes in several categories including Most Admired Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Teacher, Community Worker, Stepmother, etc. Over the past 12 years, essay writers have included males, females, adults and young people.
