Helping Your Kids Enjoy Good Dental Health
Local Dentists Gives Parents Tips as a Part of Children's Dental Health Month -
February is National Children's Dental Health Month. While kids do have a mind of their own, and are going to eat many foods harmful to their teeth, a local dentist says there are things parents can do to help their kids enjoy good dental health throughout their childhood and teenage years.
"Kids are going to snack throughout the day at school, and drink pop that is harmful to their teeth," says Dr. Glen Spinelli of the Spinelli Dental Group. "But, when they are in the home, that's where parents can contribute to helping their kids maintain their oral health."
Dr. Spinelli offers the following suggestions for parents once kids are home from school:
Make them a snack that contains their favorite fruits or vegetables.
Make sure younger kids brush effectively - Your kids should brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
Get your kids in the habit of flossing - Floss once a day to get rid of food stuck in between your teeth that brushing may not get rid of.
Visit the dentist for regular check-ups - Kids should see the dentist twice a year to help them stay cavity free.
"And limit the pop intake," says Dr. Spinelli. "Substituting water, or milk, for pop will help prevent tooth decay."
Glen Spinelli, D.D.S. and Peter Grace, D.D.S. own and operate their established general and cosmetic dentistry practice, Spinelli Dental that has been serving the Rochester community since 1966.
