Our Scholastic Arts Spotlight shines on a promising young photographer from Pittsford Sutherland High School.
If all the world's a picture, Chelsea McNamara's ready to capture it. She's got a camera, and she uses it!
"I love to take photographs. My favorite thing to photograph is people," says Chelsea. "There’s one of my sister, actually it's a black and white portrait. It's a profile and there's a cloth over her face. I really worked hard on the lighting to make it very dramatic and I feel like it really captures her. It’s what I think of when I think of her."
But Chelsea doesn't just use a camera---she uses the computer too. Her other passion is graphic design. And her peers take notice. Chelsea’s been chosen to design posters for Pittsford Sutherland’s school musicals. This shutterbug's an award winner.
"Chelsea is one of those students who is driven beyond classroom environment. You ask her to do one assignment and she comes back with three. She has always put forth more than 100 percent effort," says Pittsford Sutherland art teacher Kathleen Cramer
"Since about the age of 7 I’ve always loved making videos, movies. And as a sophomore I took photo 1 and fell in love with it. Since then everyone has been very supportive."
Chelsea says she’d love to work for a magazine, in the advertising field.
Chelsea already has a great portfolio. She has her eye set on a career in photography....and plans on majoring in commercial photography in college. Chances are she'll be snapping pictures all the way there.
