Wings Come Back Again, 6-5

Alejandro Machados eighth inning sacrfice fly gave the Rochester Red Wings a 6-5 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox 6-5 Tuesday night at Frontier Field. The Wings were led by Matt Macri, who was 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Ben Julianel (1-0)recorded the win for Rochester, and Jose Vaquedano (0-1)received the loss for Pawtucket. The Wings took back the lead for good in the eighth inning. Macri led off the inning with a single to center. Macri stole second, and Trevor Plouffe followed with a gutsy at-bat resulting in a sacrifice to second, moving Macri to third. Alejandro Machado followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Macri, and giving the Wings the 6-5 lead. Pawtucket threatened in the top of the first. A two-base throwing error by third baseman Luke Hughes put Jeff Natale on second. A sacrifice moved Natale to third, and Wings starter Jason Jones walked consecutive batters to load the bases. Jones got out of the jam with a strikeout looking, his second of the inning, throwing 28 pitches in the inning. The Wings struck first blood in the bottom half. Jason Pridie led off for the Wings with a single to left field. Matt Tolbert blooped a single into center field and advanced to second on an unsuccessful throw attempting to nail Pridie at third. Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to right field driving in a run. Dustin Martin continued his hot start with a single driving in Tolbert. Macri got the fourth Wings hit of the inning, a double to the corner in right field, driving in Martin from first. A balk advanced Macri to third, and Plouffe grounded out to short, driving in Macri for a four-run first for Rochester. After an easy 11-pitch second inning, Jones allowed a solo home run to Jeff Bailey to start the Pawtucket third. Bailey struck again in the fifth, this time with a runner on first, hitting another home run off Jones in the first pitch of the at-bat, bringing the Red Sox within a run at 4-3. Jones exited the game after the home run, pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, all earned, while walking two and striking out four on 86 pitches. Lefty Sean Henn entered the game in relief. Henn kept the Red Sox scoreless in the fifth and sixth, but got in trouble in the seventh, with a leadoff single and a walk. Bobby Keppel came in to relieve Henn. Both runners advanced on a passed ball by Drew Butera. Bailey came up to the plate and walked, while both runners advanced, one scoring, on a wild pitch ball four. Natale followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring another run, giving Pawtucket their first lead of the game at 5-4. Butera led off the bottom half with a double to right-center. A few batters later, Luke Hughes singled to center, driving in Butera, and tying the game at 5-5.
