Wings Top Pawtucket, 5-3

The Rochester Red Wings beat the Pawtucket Red Sox 5-3 Monday night at Frontier Field, despite getting out-hit 10-7. Mike Gosling picked up the win in relief, as the Rochester bullpen continued their solid performance so far this season. Matt Macri started off the bottom of the second inning against Charlie Zink with a base hit, then stole second base. Alejandro Machado following with a walk, then Brock Peterson was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases. Drew Buteras sacrifice fly scored Macri with the first run of the game. The Red Wings added two more in the third. Dustin Martin walked with two outs and stole second. Macri walked, then Machados hit brought home Martin. Brock Peterson singled in Macri home and the Wings led 3-0. Wings starter Carmen Pignatiello, making his first start since April 2006 in Double-A, breezed throught the first three innings. In the fourth, Dusty Brown and Carlos Maldonado drove in runs during a four-hit inning to bring Pawtucket to within a run at 3-2. Bobby Keppel replaced Pignatiello in the fifth, and Trevor Plouffe came into the game after Jason Pridie was ejected. Keppel worked around two base hits in his one ining of work, and made a nice fielding play to take away a potential base hit by Jeff Natale. Rochester got a run back against Zink and reliever Devern Hansack in the fifth. Martin singled and Macri walked. Tommy Watkins hit a single that drove Martin in to score the fourth run of the game. In the sixth, Plouffe doubled, stole third and scored on a throwing error. Armando Gabino allowed three hits and a run in the sixth as Pawtucket pulled to within two runs at 5-3. Mike Gosling took over and got the final out of the seventh inning, then fanned two in a scoreless eighth. Jose Mijares finished up for the Wings, getting the save and retiring all four batters he faced.
