breaking news
John Wallace, Jr. scored 26 points, including 22 in the second half as second-seeded Athena held off pesky number 10 Brockport 67-63 in the Class AA2 quarterfinals at Greece Friday night. The lead changed hands six times in the fourth quarter alone. Wallace, Jr. made a three point play to put the Trojans up by two. Brockport tied the game on free throws, but Athena hit a foul shot to go up one and then Wallace, Jr. made another layup to push the lead to three. Isaac Floyd made a putback with a minute left to give Athena a five point lead, but Cody Oakes answered with a quick three to pull Brockport within two. Both teams missed the front end of one-and-ones before R.J. Kalb made two to put Athena ahead by four with seven seconds left.
Brockport made it interesting late by scoring with a second left and then calling a timeout which did not exist. The Trojans made two technical free throws to produce the four point win.
