The Rochester Americans were held scoreless for the second time in three nights as they fell 3-0 to Albany River Rats tonight at the Times Union Center. This is the Amerks third loss in a row and it drops their record to 15-26-0-4 (34-points) on the season.
Posting the shutout in goal for the River Rats was Justin Peters, who stopped all 23 shots he faced. Peter’s performance between the pipes earned him first star honors. Dwight Helminen had a two point night (1+1) to earn himself the third star of the game.
The River Rats took a 1-0 lead on the power play as former Amerk, Michael Ryan netted his team leading 23rd goal of the season at the 5:13 mark of the first. Just over six minutes later they proceeded to take a 2-0 lead as Jerome Samson netted his 12th goal of the season.
Helminen got the River Rats third goal of the game on the power play at the 4:21 mark of the third. Helminen’s 10th goal of the season was assisted by Bryan Rodney.
Rochester returns home as it hosts the Rockford IceHogs on Wednesday, February 4th at The Blue Cross Arena.
