News 8 Now shines the Scholastic Arts Spotlight on Allyce Barron, a senior at LeRoy High School. Allyce is the Drum Major for the Marching Band. But that's not all. In fact, when it comes to music, Allyce does it all! We caught up with her at the school's chorus practice. She's a soprano. Allyce also plays the saxophone and piano, and just this year, she picked up the french horn. There's a reason she likes learning. "I love to arrange and compose music," she says, "and understanding all those instruments just makes you more experienced and more knowledgeable."
If anyone knows Allyce, it's teacher Denise Duthe. Allyce first studied with Denise in second grade and today, she volunteers in the music office that Denise runs for LeRoy Central School. Denise says, "I would describe Allyce as unbounding energy, positive attitude, a worker to the nth degree, a brilliant young lady and a true friend."
"I'm thinking about doing business school," says Allyce. "I'm really interested in starting a community school for music or going to law school afterward but that's just a matter of how I feel and what my goals are at the time."
Allyce would love to earn a degree from the Eastman School of Music, but for now, there's work to do on the field, with the marching band! Allyce is a musical renaissance woman, marching to her own beat.
