News 8 Now shines the Scholastic Arts Spotlight on Kayla Carpitella of Irondequoit High School. By her own admission, Kayla is a quiet person, and even those who know her well say she expresses herself best through her artwork. Kayla's award-winning portfolio includes charcoal drawings, nude portraits, a Plexiglass painting and a picture book.
Her teachers say she's motivated and extremely disciplined. She certainly is dedicated. In addition to art classes at school, Kayla also takes photography classes and private lessons with professional artists.
Kayla hopes to make art a career, perhaps as a book illustrator. Among those recognizing her talent: The prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, one of the best art colleges in the country. Kayla will start classes there next fall. Congratulations, Kayla Carpitella!
