Janis Sprukts, Jacob Micflikier and Karl Stewart each converted in the shootout to lift the Rochester Americans to a 2-1 win over the Houston Aeros tonight at the Toyota Center. The win gave Rochester its first road victory of the season and the season sweep over Houston as the Amerks improve to 5-19-0-2 on the year. Mike Brodeur made his third straight start in net tonight for the visiting Amerks, finishing with a 26-save effort en route to earning first star honors, while Houston’s Barry Brust recorded 25 saves in the losing effort. Rochester took a 1-0 lead late in the first period as Dan Collins found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Michael Duco and David Brine were each credited with assists on the play. Houston would finally get on the board as Maxim Noreau converted on the power play at 8:45 of the second period to even the game at 1-1, which would remain scoreless for the next 35 minutes of play. Despite outshooting Houston 9-5 in the third and 3-1 in the extra frame, Rochester couldn’t find the back of the net until the shootout where three consecutive goals would ultimately give the Amerks the win.
