The Rochester Americans earned their third win of the season, beating the Lake Erie Monsters by a score of 2-1 tonight at the Blue Cross Arena. The game ends an Amerks seven game winless streak.
The Amerks were lead by goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu who had a stellar performance in net with 27 saves on 28 shots. Michael Repik and Dan Collins each netted a goal in the 2-1 win; while Michael Duco, Andrew Sweetland, Stefan Meyer, and Keaton Ellerby each had assists. Sweetland’s assist on the Collins goal was the rookie’s first professional point.
The Monsters were lead by Chris Mueller who came up with the lone Monster goal, with assists from Mark McCutcheon and Ray Macias. In goal, Jason Bacashihua made 21 saves on 23 shots in the loss.
Dan Collins broke the scoreless tie at the 5:05 mark of the second when he roofed the puck over Monsters goalie Bacashihua. Collins’ third goal of the season was assisted by Duco and rookie Sweetland.
The Amerks extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play when Meyer passed the puck cross-crease to Repik, who wasted no time to deposit the puck in the back of the net. Repik’s fifth goal of the season ties him for the team lead in points with ten and for team lead in goals with five.
The Monsters came back in the third with a goal at 15:12, shot by Chris Mueller and over the right shoulder of Beckford-Tseu. With just over a minute left, the Monsters benched goaltender Bacashihua for the extra skater, but the Amerks held on to win by a score of 2-1, for their third win this season.
