Blue Cross Execs Concerned About Attendance

Checking out an Amerks game isn't yet the cool thing to do. Attendance is down at least 10%, and that's especially depressing considering that this season was supposed to be a rebirth of sorts. New owners, new coach, new players. But fans got losing hockey, and stands that are way less than half full. It's a catch 22. But this isn't just about hockey. It's about winning.
"The success of our operation depends on people being there, enjoying themselves, and spending some money,” said Jeff Calkins, the president of Blue Cross Arena.
The arena hopes things pick up by thanksgiving, but admits that if they don't, there could be changes.
"We really need to take more serious actions, what do we do? Do we reduce prices? How do we generate that excitement to get people back in the stands?" Calkins said.
The fans who are there, are concerned about something deeper.
"I'm afraid if we don't get the support, eventually it's going to go away," said fan Carol Bartosh.
