Rochester Americans strike down the Houston Aeros 3-2 tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. In the game Kenndal McArdle extended his point streak to five games, during which time he has tallied five points (2+3). Amerks rookie center, Shawn Matthias netted his third goal of the season tonight and has now scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his professional career. The win improves the Amerks home record to 2-5-0 on the season.
Amerks’ goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu stood tall in net to keep the high flying Aeros off the board for 57:51 of the game. Beckford-Tseu finished the night with 17 saves and third star honors.
At the 5:36 mark of the third the Amerks broke the scoreless tie when Stefan Meyer tipped the puck though the five-hole of Aeros goalie Nolan Schaefer. Meyer first goal of the season came on the power play and was assisted by Janis Sprukts and Rochester native Rory Fitzpatrick.
The Amerks made it 2-0 when McArdle slid the puck on the ice just inside the right post at the 12:54 mark of the third. McArdle’s team leading eighth point (3+5) was assisted by Drew Larman and Tanner Glass.
The Amerks proceed to take a 3-0 when Matthias walked in all alone on Schaefer and beat him glove side. Helping Matthias’ third goal of the year is fellow rookie Michael Duco.
Late in the third the Aeros struck back with two quick goals from John Lammers and Bryan Lundbohm to pull with in one with 23 seconds left on the clock. That was as close as the Aeros would come as the Amerks killed of the final tics of the clock with no problem.
Rochester is back at The Blue Cross Arena on Monday, November 10th as it seeks its first win of the 2008-09 AHL season against the Manitoba Moose. Faceoff is 7:05pm.
