Lollypop Farm hopes to reduce animal overpopulation one zip code at a time.

The Humane Society of Greater Rochester has grant money that is providing for free spaying and neutering services.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, starting this week, animal owners in the 14613 zip code can receive free spay and neuter services.

"It makes me very happy to be able to do this to be able to know less animals coming into the shelter, that is what it is all about," said Dr. Andrew Newmark, Chief Veterinarian at Lollypop Farm.

Lollypop Farm has one veterinarian dedicated to the program which they wanted to start once the new surgery wing was open.

"Now we have a beautiful new surgery theater here, five surgery tables. We will be able to get five more surgeries done and help the public better that way," said Dr. Newmark.

A $73,000 dollar grant from Petsmart Charities will provide about 1500 surgeries this year.

The 14613 zip code was chosen because of the number of dogs and cats Lollypop Farm and the Rochester Animals Service received from that part of the Rochester.

Also, it's due to the lack of veterinarians there and the income level.

The pets also get micro-chipped and a rabies shot. Transportation is provided to and from the neighborhood.

Kim Graf's cats are Batman and Princess. She was excited that the service was offered to her.

"I hope this will help more people out getting their animals fixed," said Kim Graf, a pet owner.

Dog owner Teresa Smart is also grateful.

"It saved me like 300 dollars," said Teresa Smart, who owns a small border collie.

Her pup, Katie Scartlett, had surgery and she hopes others do the same.

"It's not something with the economy the way it is, they are not able to put forward that money and it's just a shame because the overpopulation and everything that goes along with it," said Smart.

Lollypop Farm hopes it can expand the program in the future.

All animals have to be between 4 months and 6 years old.

If you live in the 14613 zip code you can contact Lollypop Farm at: 585-222-1330 Ext. 111
