The Village of Pittsford hasn't seen a mayoral race like this in years.

"It's gotten ugly," said Elaine Roman, a voter.

20-year Republican and incumbent Robert Corby is going head to head with fellow Republican and Village Trustee Trip Pierson.

"It's an unusual campaign for many reasons but I think we have never had a stronger team on our side," said Mayor Robert Corby, running for re-election.

"It's been a one-issue campaign which has been frustrating because there are a lot of things that we need to do," said Trip Pierson, (R) , running for mayor.

It's that one issue that's drawing voters to the polls.

"Absolutely 75 Monroe and that development and the scale of it," said Harold Danko, a voter.

That development would bring more than 100 apartments to a vacant property at the edge of the village on Monroe Avenue.

Pearson favored the project. Corby opposed it.

Corby did not receive the Republican Party's endorsement for this election and is instead endorsed by the Democratic, Conservative, and Pittsford Village United Parties

"Pittsford Village United is just one way of wearing it on your sleeve that it's the people in the village first, rather than the party," Lisa Onoff, a voter.

"For the first time, I voted for who I wanted to vote for and not against somebody," said Roman, who voted for Corby.

The person elected mayor will serve a four-year term.

Polls remain open until 9pm.
