"It terrifies me how true that is and how many girls go through this thing and have visual and mental breakdowns and can't even control it," Hughey said.
According to campus officials, the alleged incident took place on campus at an apartment in the University Commons during a party, Friday night.
Investigators say an intoxicated male, unknown to the female victim, allegedly sexually assaulted her.
"I was kind of surprised," sophomore Tessa Anderson explained. "I didn't think stuff like this happened here. So it was surprising."
Recent campus crime data shows no alleged sexual assaults in 2011.
However, rape reports are filed separately. In that case, R.I.T. had 13 total rape reports on campus that year.
"It's disturbing," added Hughey. "It's here, it's Brockport, it's University of Rochester, it's at every college in this community."
Campus security sent out a campus wide crime alert via email Monday afternoon to all students.
It explained that they were investigating the sexual assault of a student.
The email didn't come as a shock to senior, Emily Martin. She's one of 18,000 undergrads.
"I'm not necessarily surprised. It usually happens a couple times a year. I'm just glad R.I.T. is working toward solving it."
So far there have been no arrests. Campus officials urge anyone with information to call 9-1-1.
