University Prep missed a three pointer at the buzzer as the Griffins lost to Martin Luther King 56-53 in the Class D state semifinals Friday morning at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

U-Prep led by nine points early in the third quarter, but MLK went on a monster 28-5 run to swung the score to 52-38 in favor of Martin Luther King.

The Griffins then answered with a 15-1 run of their own. Marique Simkin--an 8th grader--hit a runner to tie the game at 53 with a minute to play.

MLK answered quick with two free throws to take the lead. U-Prep missed a three for the lead. Each then turned it over, forcing the Griffins to foul. MLK made 1 of 2, setting up the final chance for University Prep.

Cameron Myles led the Griffins with 19 points. U-Prep played without Jordan Marshall, who missed the game because of a death in the family.

U-Prep, which has no one on the team or at the school older than a sophomore, finished the season at 19-4.
