A western New York man is the first person to be charged under the SAFE Act.

Police say Benjamin Wassell, 32, sold an illegal semi-automatic weapon to an undercover investigator: the Armalite AR10 Magnum. Investigators say the sale happened in February after the SAFE Act was passed. Wassell is facing a misdemeanor for the sale and he is also charged with felony criminal sale of an illegal weapon from an incident in January.
