Jeff Redband spent most of the season on the Batavia junior varsity. Tonight, he's the reason the varsity season is still alive.

Redband hit a three just before the buzzer to give Batavia a 63-62 win over Olean in the Class B state quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Blue Cross Arena.

Justin Washington took the inbounds pass in the backcourt with 6.5 seconds left, dribbled up court, but appeared to lose control in the lane. The loose ball came to Redband, who had to pump and released the ball less than 0.1 seconds before the buzzer.

Jalen Smith led the Blue Devils with 24 points. He made a three to cap a 9-0 run early in the 4th quarter that erased a 50-43 deficit after the third.

Will Bathurst had given Olean the lead on a steal and fast-break layup with 30 seconds to go. Bathurst led Olean with 18 points.

Batavia now moves onto the Class B state semifinals. The Blue Devils next play at 8:30pm Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center north of Albany.
