ESL Federal Credit Union received the Patriotic Employer Award in a ceremony at the company's Rochester headquarters Friday morning.

The award recognizes companies that demonstrate unwavering support to members of the military as they transition to the civilian workforce.  A company has to be nominated to receive the Patriotic Employer Award.

One year ago this week Army Specialist Chris Cianflone was hired as a part-time teller for ESL.  "I'd been applying for positions left and right, just simply trying to get a job out of the army because my skills as airborne infantry don't really translate in the civilian world," said Cianflone.

His supervisor, Robin Frisbee, helped ease the transition and adjusted Cianflone's schedule for reserve duty.  As a gesture of appreciation, he nominated her for the Patriotic Employer Award.  "She always went above and beyond, just going and moving things around as needed, if I need that last minute shoot, a two day drill just turned into a three day drill, it was never a problem," said Cianflone.

Frisbee was surprised and honored by the recognition.  "It was easy to think of hiring Chris, just knowing what his background is," she said.  "I knew that he was going to be a hard worker."

The award is sponsored by ESGR, the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve, an operational committee of the Department of Defense.

Last fall Cianflone spent a month away from work with his army reserve unit.  Shortly after returning, he was promoted to full-time telebanker.  "I was very excited just to have the opportunity to work for ESL because I had heard such great things about it as a company, and then to find that everybody in the company I worked with - they were all great employees, they were all very friendly, it was almost like a family," he said.

ESL CEO Dave Fiedler said the award reflects the company's inclusive culture - one that focuses on dependability and service commitment.
