The United Way of Greater Rochester has officially kicked off its fundraising campaign.

The organization has set its biggest goal yet, hoping to raise $26 million in 2013. Several dozen supporters, volunteers and community leaders were at the Memorial Art Gallery Thursday morning for the announcement. They are coming off a campaign high from 2012. Last year, they surpassed their $25.5 million goal, raising more than $27 million. Money donated goes toward nearly 80 local programs to help the community. Those programs focus on five key areas: early childhood, school age youth, aging, disability services and crisis services.

"There are people throughout our community who need a social safety net that United Way helps provide. There are people who need basic necessities...there are seniors who need the attention we provide through United Way," said campaign chairman and U of R president Joel Seligman.

Campaign totals are expected to be announced later this summer. If you would like to make a contribution, click here.
