Greece Athena Rally Back to Win 4th Title in Eight Years

Zac DiSalvo missed his first seven shots of the Boys Class AA2 sectional final against Irondequoit. He made his eighth with 2.9 seconds left to give Athena a 44-42 lead. Just as he planned.

The Trojans won by the same score, in a game that they never led until the 4th quarter. DiSalvo had been one of Athena's go-to scorers all season long, but in the sectional final, he couldn't get anything to fall. His teammate Deion Hamilton led all scorers with 18.

Irondequoit jumped out to a 9-1 lead after the opening quarter and it looked like the game could end in a rout. Athena didn't catch fire until the fourth. Freshman forward Anthony Lamb dropped 11 points and 7 rebounds including a 3-point play with 90 seconds remaining that got the game within one before DiSalvo's game-winning shot.

With the win, Irondequoit will play Bishop Kearney in the Class AA state qualifier on Wednesday, March 6 at Blue Cross Arena at 8:45.
