Burglary Suspect Rescued from Genesee River Gorge

What began as a foot chase Saturday night ended in a burglary suspect being rescued from the Genesee River Gorge.

Rochester Police responded to 2200 Dewey Avenue for the report of two suspicious males attempting to burglarize homes. Upon arrival on the scene, both suspects fled the scene resulting in a foot chase. One of the suspects was apprehended, while the other fled through Riverside cemetery.

While searching for the suspect, officers found footprints in the snow and believed leading to the gorge and believed the man had fallen in. With the assistance of Rochester Fire Department the suspect was located approximately 100 feet down the gorge wall. The fire department was able to rescue the male and turned him over to police.

The suspect was then taken to Strong Hospital for his exposure to the cold elements.
