Irondequoit 54, Greece Athena 49

The (2)Irondequoit Girl's basketball team claimed their first ever Section V title with a 54-49 win over (5)Greece Athena at Roberts Wesleyan thanks to some huge plays from Savannah Crocetti and Jennifer Reininger.
Crocetti scored all 16 of her points in the second half, including five 3-pointers, while Reininger led all scorers with 17 points.
With 4:30 left in the game and Irondequoit up 41-40, Reininger took a rebound off a missed Irondequoit free-throw and laid it up and in to give the Eagles a 43-40 lead that they never relinquished. Christina Leonardo led the Trojans with 17 points and kept Athena in the game down the stretch, but could not find the lead late.
Irondequoit will play Gates-Chili on Monday at 8:00 from Eastridge High in the state tournament qualifier.
