A new multi-million dollar, multi-use sports complex may be going up in Walworth. The proposed site is in the middle of a field, across from Carey Lake. Parents are hoping "Your Sports Depot" is the answer to much needed gym space on the east side.
"There is a big need out here. There's a big need everywhere," said Chris Klee, CFO, Your Sports Depot.
He's a dad, a coach, and now the CFO of "Your Sports Depot." By October, Chris Klee hopes his children and other athletes will be playing ball inside a sports facility that is now nothing but a farmer's field.
"I coach youth basketball. We had a tournament last week, and we had no gym space. We scrambled just to find gym space, just to get ready for a tournament, said Klee.
project initially calls for two indoor fields and three courts, a
restaurant and preschool. Klee envisions the day it houses a hockey
rink surrounded by even more outdoor fields and courts.
"Kids are playing sports, ya know, you're talking about ya know, childhood obesity. So this gets kids active and moving. Youth sports is huge, and there's just not enough space to play in Rochester, New York, because as you can see by the snow, we can't always play outside all the time," added Klee.
Because the project sits in a rural area, surrounded mostly by farmland, the town does not expect it to face much opposition.
Walworth's code enforcement officer says the town welcomes the complex. It still needs to go before the townspeople in a public hearing.
"Business comes in, generates revenue for the town. Creates taxes. Businesses don't send children to school, but they still pay school taxes. So business is a good economic foundation," said Phil Williamson, Walworth Code Enforcement Officer.
Klee hopes to break ground in the spring.
