Bishop Kearney may be hitting their stride which can only mean unpleasant times for the rest of Class A. The 7-seed Kings overcame a 5 point halftime deficit to win at 2-seed Fairport 47-43.
The Kings entered the season with expectations unseen in Section V thanks to two stars in their frontcourt. Thomas Bryant and Chinonso Obokoh have each shined at times this season, but BK has sputtered, ending the regular season with a 9-7 record.
On Friday against Fairport, the Kings used a steady, well-balanced attack to take the lead in the 4th quarter. Antwoine Anderson finished the game with a team-high 15 points, while Alvin English chipped in 13. Bryant and Obokoh each scored nine points for Keraney.
Obokoh's presence in the paint was obvious on both ends of the floor. His layin with a minute remaining in the game put Kearney up for good, and in the second half he defended Fairport's bigmen terrificly by blocking shots, forcing turnovers and bad shots.
Bishop Kearney (11-7) will play Rush-Henrietta (11-8) in Thursday's Class AA1 semifinals at Blue Cross Arena. The 6th-seeded Royal Comets won a 3-seed Hilton on Friday.
