Now in the middle of his first term, Governor Andrew Cuomo still has an aggressive agenda and he highlighted that plan to a packed house at the Eastman School of Music's Kilbourn Hall, Thursday afternoon.
Education, recreation and job creation all top the governor's list.
He plans to offer longer school days and a longer school year if a district chooses and the state will foot the bill.
He's also pushing an amendment to the state's constitution allowing casinos in new york . He proposes having three upstate.
The governor is still getting questioned about gun reform.
The new york safe act--tightening gun regulations-- became law just two days into session. It has caused a great divide among New Yorkers.
"I believe it's fear, well if the government does this, what will the government do next?" Cuomo said. "I'm a gun owner. This is not about taking someone's gun."
Increasing minimum wage to $8.75 an hour is also part of the governor's plan. He pushed that message again.
While it's a priority, he said he's open to removing it from the budget. He added that if it is removed, he would still push for approval before session ends in June.
