A new display at the Webster Public Library is paying tribute to the firefighters injured and killed on Christmas Eve.

The library draws in hundreds of kids every week. The exhibit is the first thing they see when they walk in: a "Hometown Heroes" display that honors all of our first responders. Five-year-old Dillon Muto is one of the many kids who get the chances to literally step into the shoes of our first responders. The display is a place where kids can try on firefighters' helmets, jackets and boots. But it is also a place that honors the fallen heroes of the Christmas Eve tragedy.

"That's what we wanted. We wanted something hands-on so the kids can be involved and the kids can have some understanding at all levels of what it feels like to be a first responder," library assistant Barbara Patskin said.

"I'm so excited they got to try it on. We got three little boys that love playing dress up," Dillon's mom Kathie said.

The display also features books about first responders.

"It's been a lot of fun for the kids to try on and pretend to be firemen and policement, but for the rest of us, when we look at those jackets and helmets, we realize the courage it takes to actually wear them and we know they are the best of us," Patskin said.

The "Hometown Heroes" display will be up for kids to enjoy for the next month.
