At Wednesday's meeting people who live near the property wanted to know how the board planned to enforce noise regulations, and if their quality of life will be effected by the board allowing the tavern to stay open until 2 a.m. Most bars and restaurants in Penfield choose to close around midnight.
Jeremiah's tavern would share a parking lot with the Doodle Bug's daycare. It would open at 11 a.m. and that's a big concern for parents.
Residents say they'll hear music from the tavern at their homes in the early hours of the morning. They were also concerned about noise coming from the tavern's outdoor patio.
The board added amendments to the resolution approving the tavern's permit to address those concerns. Now, the outdoor patio must close at 10 p.m. seven days a week, and the board must be involved int he tavern's sound mitigation plan, "I think the resolution the board had drafted up and put forth addressed a lot of those, I think the amendments helped the residents in the area feel a little bit better about this particular project."
Residents are pleased with the changes but are waiting to see if they'll actually help, "I'm still concerned about the alcohol that will be served knowing that Doodle Bugs is there and that the children will be there, I'm also concerned about the hours of the establishment being open because they'll be opening at 11," said Penfield resident Monica Gorlick, "I'm hoping they'll be more reasonable and of course the noise pollution." Penfield resident Suzanne Wilson added, "I kind of knew that they weren't going to kill the deal, in one aspect I'm anticipating a good restaurant, and I just think that with these amendments it will make it a quieter environment."
The town supervisor says residents always have the right to contact police with noise complaints, and the town can revoke the tavern's permit if noise becomes an issue.
