Rochester, NY--Classroom by classroom, Rochester Fire Inspector Stephen Morgan is checking over every last inch of Rochester City School Number 8. He's looking for anything that could cause a fire."It's a basic overview of being safe, just like you would at your home."

He's leaving no stone unturned. Fresh fire extinguishers and properly posted fire rules and procedures are two major aspects of the inspection.

"We have access to all the boiler records, elevators and sprinkler systems if they have them. "

Morgan says he's never found any major fire hazards. But, he often spots potential problems like full electrical outlets and blocked energy exit windows.

"It's safety. It's something we don't think about all the time until something happens. So, this is a yearly reminder of how we keep it up."

Any violation is turned over to the school and it's up to school officials to comply with the inspector's recommendations.

No matter how minor, Morgan says it's important that schools do.

He says even small changes can be life savers.
