Dietitian Beth Smythe joined Katrina Irwin on News 8 at Sunrise Tuesday. She talked about ways to strengthen your bones.

She says look for food rich in calcium.

Dairy foods are best - low fat or fat free milk, yogurt, cheese

Fortified foods - orange juice, cereal, bread, soy milk and tofu

Canned fish with bones - sardines

Dark green leafy vegetables - kale, broccoli, bok choy

It's also important to get a lot of Vitamin d:

Sun light

Dairy foods

Egg yolks

Fatty fish - salmon, tuna, sardines

Move your body with exercise to strengthen bones:

30 - 60 minutes per day

Walk/jog/run

Stair climbing

Dancing

Basketball

Weightlifting

And avoid the following bone breakers:

Too much salt

Too much alcohol

Smoking

Extreme dieting
