An indictment was unsealed against Ziad Yousef, 47, in Monroe County Court Thursday. The District Attorney's office has charged him with murder in the death of Aaron Atkins. Atkins was shot along with Tracey McFadden, 30, on Jefferson Avenue in September of 1993. According to court documents, Yousef was an employee of a corner store and had been having problems with Atkins and McFadden. A confrontation ensued and Yousef shot both of them. McFadden died, but Atkins survived.
The District Attorney's office says Atkins suffered a severe spinal injury from the shooting 20 years ago, which caused him to be paralyzed. Yousef was initially convicted of assault, but Atkins recently died from what investigators say were complications from his injuries he sustained from the shooting.
Yousef is currently serving a 20-to-life sentence in prison for McFadden's death.
