Tuesday night's vote by the Monroe County Legislature came down to politics, rather than education.

Legislators voted right along party lines to approve the $3 million dollar purchase of the Kodak building for a new downtown campus for Monroe Community College. Every Republican voted in favor of the sale, every Democrat voted against it.

Democrats raised concerns about funding saying $24 million dollars of state money to renovate the Kodak building hasn't been secured.

Democrats also wanted to consider Winn Development's plan to renovate MCC's campus inside the Sibley Building. They said They company's claim that it could save $18 million dollars of taxpayer money was worth looking into.

In the end, Democrats did not have enough votes to delay the decision and Republicans had the muscle to approve the sale.

Anne Kress, the president of MCC said the legislature made the right decision, "

Now the county and Kodak will have to work out a final agreement for the sale.  Then, MCC will begin working on designing its new campus.
