Ice water accidents can happen at any time throughout the winter months. That's why area first responders are keeping their water rescue skills sharp.

Volunteer firefighters from across Monroe County participated in a water rescue training exercise Saturday morning. It's something the county does once a month.

About 35 firefighters took part in mock ice rescue. Organizers say they try to make the rescue as realistic as possible.

The training exercise size lasts about three hours.
