A man accused in a drunk driving crash that seriously injured a Rochester Police officers pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon.

James Extale pleaded guilty to vehicular assault. The case stretched out nearly a decade. Extale had previously faced two trials in the case. Officer Nicole Cookinham wanted to bein court today to finally hear Extale admit that back in 2004 he hit her while driving drunk

"I'm glad he served some time. He did admit it. So, I'm happy with that," Cookinham said.

She may be happy but Officer Nicole Cookinham will never be healed. On November 6, 2004 after drinking beers at a party, Extale drove drunk and hit Officer Cookinham with his car. It was his third DWI. She was able to stand tall Thursday with the help of her fellow officers. Several were in court to show support:

Extale served eight years in prison before being released last year. His license has been revoked. It will be up to the DMV to determine when he gets it back.
