Dr. Karyn Leible from Jewish Senior Life joined Katrina on News 8 at Noon to talk about tips for improving memory.

.Regular exercise: Your ability to remember increases when you nurture your brain with healthy habits. In addition to protecting against Alzheimer's and dementia, regular exercise increases energy, reduces stress and boosts mood.

.Healthy diet: Just like the rest of your body, your brain needs a nutritious diet to operate at its best. Focus on diet based on fruits, vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats.

.Mental stimulation: Much like muscular health, your memory requires you to "use it or [you could] lose it." The best brain exercising activities can be virtually anything, so long as it breaks your routine and challenges you-crossword puzzles, driving new routes, learning to ballroom dance, or controlling your computer mouse with your other hand.

.Quality sleep: There are many reasons to get a good night's sleep, and memory function is one. Try to sleep at least seven hours a night, without sleeping medications or alcohol, if possible. You will feel more focused and be able to think more clearly after waking up from a good night's rest.

.Stress management: Get a hold of the stress in your life, and eliminate as much of it as you can. Stress that is chronic or severe takes a heavy toll on the brain.

.An active social life: Make your social life a priority. Studies show that the more connected we are, the better we fare on tests of memory and cognition.
