The hospital has decided to cut 58 full-time workers. Hospital president Dr. Lewis Zulick says the cuts are necessary because of the changes made to the health care system under President Obama's Affordable Care Act. Essentially, he says the health care law draws more physicians to service in home and outpatient settings. In a statement Zulick says that the employment structure "needed to be adjusted if we were to maintain a financially sound, full service hospital with the resources required to invest in future technologies, our staff and the emerging services that will best serve our community in the face of the national and local changes in the health care industry."
All eligible employees have been offered severance packages. The hospital employs about 775 people.
