Rochester City Council has approved funds to build a skate park along the Genesee River downtown.

The council approved $50,000 in funding Tuesday night for the project. The park would be built along the Genesee River under the Frederick Douglas Susan B. Anthony bridge. It is a project that has been in the works for four years and will cost around $2.5 million. Organizers have raised $80,000. They hope to begin construction in 2015.
