The flu is spreading nationwide at a pace never before seen, and in Rochester it is no different.

New data from the Monroe County Health Department obtained Thursday shows that eight people have died from the flu. Seven of those victims were above age 65, while the other was between 50 and 64. The data also shows that 226 people have been hospitalized because of the flu. There are now 1,348 confirmed laboratory cases of the flu virus, which is up from around 900 cases just weeks ago.

Health officials are encouraging people to get vaccinated with flu shots. To find local flu clinics, click here.
