A petition has been started through the White House website to give four West Webster Firefighters the Medal of Freedom. The firefighters were shot while responding to a house fire on Christmas Eve. Because the scene was deemed unsafe for firefighters, seven homes burned to the ground.

Lt. Mike Chiapperini and Firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka died on the scene after being shot. Firefighters Joseph Hofsetter and Theodore Scardino are recovering from their injuries at Strong Hospital.

Greece Police Officer John Ritter was slightly injured by shrapnel in the shooting, and backed up his car to warn others not to enter the scene.
