Officer John Ritter left his house around 5:30 Monday morning heading to Greece, for work.  That's when he noticed fire trucks and followed them.  When he got to the scene he saw the fire trucks, but no firefighters.

Soon after, a bullet came through his windshield and he heard repeated rounds of gunfire, "I don't know why I'm still here other than it was some type of divine intervention that kept that round from penetrating through my car and hitting something else," said Ritter.  He took cover inside his car, backed up to a safe distance and warned others not to go down to the scene of the fire.

Ritter says the last few days have been tough, "it's a very difficult emotional response for me because I'm trained to help people and at that point I can't because I don't have anything and however I reacted and whatever I did if I was armed or if I had a radio if I had gotten out, I may not be here today," explained Ritter.

Officer Ritter suffered minor injuries, and is expects to return to work after his vacation ends.
