We really pulled off a great Golden Apple surprise this week. Kevin Doran snuck up on Antonio Selvaggio right in the middle of a school-wide assembly. Here's the story from Leary Elementary in Rush.

This surprise was going to be easier than I thought.  We walked in on an assembly at Leary Elementary School and stood right next to Antonio Selvaggio. He had no clue what was going to happen!

Hi boys and girls. Hi! I'm here to surprise Mr. Selvaggio with a Golden Apple Award.

"Wow."

That worked out really, really well.

"That did work out well, I'm really surprised!" said Mr. Selvaggio.

Students call Antonio Selvaggio Mr. "S"...and kids like Dylan Lipp love him.

"Dear News 8, Mr. Selvaggio should be selected for the Golden Apple Award because he is the best teacher ever." I have Tourette's and he's always trying to make things easier for me in school. I wish I could have Mr. S as my teacher every year until I graduate."

Dylan says the "S" may stand for Selvaggio, but it could also be for Sincere, Super, or Spectacular! And Mr. S says that last one describes his career at Leary.  He did his student teaching here, was hired and eleven years later is living a dream.

"Everyone really looks out for each other. Everyone's always trying to think of what else they can do to help someone out, especially when it comes to students. so it's a wonderful place to be."

"Congratulations Mr. Selvaggio!"

Antonio Selvaggio is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner.
