New Stem Cell Research Center in Rochester

Rochester is taking the lead when it comes to stem cell research.
The new Upstate Stem Cell Center will be used for experimental human studies for multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, cancer and more. This is the first of its kind lab in Rochester. The University of Rochester Medical Center says this could make Rochester a hub for stem cell clinical trials.
"This not only brings in new people and new ideas, and even new jobs, and we'll create a hot spot for new clinical therapies," Chris Porschel said.
"We have a lot of top notch stem cell researchers at the University of Rochester who are on the road to the clinic...diseases of the bone and muscle," assistant director Mark Noble said.
The medical center says in the past few years there have been more students interested in this type of work, so this is another opportunity for them.
