For the first time MCC is saying what it wants in a downtown campus. At Tuesday night's county budget vote, the MCC bonding agreement was approved. The move passed unanimously 29-0.

Now, the school plans to move out of the Sibley Building. With the $28 million, MCC hopes to move to the old Kodak building on State Street.

"We recognize that we still have to answer a number of questions to the lawmakers, we realize that there is still some details to be worked out, but that's where we are going. We are looking at Kodak," said Emeterio Otero, Executive Dean of the Damon Campus.

Otero says the Sibley Building has been home to students for 20 years, but it's also been a temporary campus. That's why the new facility is needed.

"Absolutely exciting. We are building a new campus for the next 100 years is what we are doing," said Otero.

So why the Kodak facility over the Sibley Building?

Otero says the new facility will offer around 500 parking spaces for students. There will also be a "green space" where students can relax and spend time outside. With more room, new programs and labs will be created.

"It's time to move. We are ready to go. We are ready to plan," said Otero.

Otero expects the plans to be finalized early next year with an official move in date in the Fall of 2016.
