Some researchers are working on an app that could figure out what the user's mood is based on voice inflections. It looks at 12 different features of speech, like pitch and volume, and then identifies one of six different emotions. Researchers say it is actually pretty accurate: about 81 percent. they say this app could be used in a variety of ways.
"You could imagine there could be a bunch of apps that can use this technique, your phone is your every day gadget, becomes kind of a companion to the user," student Na Yang said.
Right now the app is in preliminary stages. Researchers are still testing it on computers.
