Parents, Taxpayers Sound Off on City School Plans

Rochester City School parents and taxpayers got a chance to sound off on the district's more than billion dollar modernization plan on Thursday night.

The meeting took place at 6:30pm before the school board.

The plan includes revamping some aging schools and shutting some down altogether.

The closing of schools has been met with controversy, but school board president Malik Evans says they need to set priorities.

There will be several more meetings over the next three months.

"It's important to get their feedback because we do need to get rid of some of the square footage that we have and how do we do that? What are some of the things they want to see," said Malik Evans, Rochester City School Board President.

Evans suggests that people who have questions or comments should first take a look at the proposed plans, which you can find here.

The next public meetings will continue into January.

They are as follows: Coffee and conversation with Superintendent Bolgen Vargas: December 13^th, 7-9am

Parent Advisory Council meeting: December 17^th, 6pm.

Coffee and conversation with Superintendent Bolgen Vargas: December 18^th, 5-7pm.

All of the meetings will be held at 131 West Board Street in the 3^rd Floor Conference Room.
