Black Friday shopping is underway across the nation.

This year many retailers opened their doors on Thursday hoping to jump start the holiday shopping season.  Marketplace Mall was busy with shoppers on Thursday morning.

Dawn Middleton says, it was worth getting up early to see what she could get her hands on, "A little bit of both. We got good deals at Old Navy and people watching, the experience."

Another shopper, Miranda Hendershot, told News 8, "The Christmas spirit is always the best part of it all.  Getting excited for the holiday season and the gift of giving."

Many of the stores that opened early Friday will remain open throughout much of the day.  Traffic around area malls is expected to be crowded, so authorities ask you to drive with caution.
